5 Kid-friendly Shows to Watch This Winter

It can be hard to find kid-friendly television shows in the modern day. It can feel at times that there is nothing kid-friendly to watch anymore. If you have kids, you most likely want to ensure they are watching things that won’t scare them or present ideas that go against Scripture. There are certain television shows that children and adults should not watch; however, they are still out there. As Christians, we need to guard our hearts and minds, and this includes the media that we are consuming. For Christian parents, they especially want to guard what their children are watching.

If you are searching for a few kid-friendly shows for your children so you can have a few extra minutes for holiday preparations, you have come to the right place. As someone who personally doesn’t enjoy horror-themed media or other secularly bad things, I have found many kid-friendly shows that you can play for your little ones. Even though some of these television shows might not be the most interesting to adults, they are great for kids. Who knows—if you give them a chance, you might even like them yourself.

Here are five kid-friendly television shows that you and your kids can watch this winter:

1. Molang

Molang is a French-created show that stars a bunny named Molang and his best friend, Piu Piu. Piu Piu is a baby chick who is very shy and timid. Molang, on the other hand, is extroverted and always ready to laugh at his own mistakes. This show is perfect for kids because they will quickly love Molang and Piu Piu’s adventures. There are many seasons already available, which you can purchase or stream online.

Molang and Piu Piu don’t speak in words, but rather in cute sounds. The creators of Molang did it this way in order for all kids to enjoy the show. Therefore, even if your kids are not old enough to fully understand words or string together sentences, they will still be able to enjoy Molang. With it being wintertime, there are also episodes that are winter-themed as well as Christmas-themed. One season of Molang lasts several hours, which means it will keep your kids entertained for a long time if you need a few minutes to wrap Christmas gifts or clean for the holidays.

With Molang, you don’t have to worry about scary things, inappropriate content, or negative themes. Everything in this show is kid-friendly. If you are trying to find something that your kids will enjoy, Molang is the way to go. The bright colors and the fast movie storyline will keep your kids engaged throughout the entire show. You might even be interested in watching the show since it is very peaceful and can give you a chance to also have some time off.

2. The Adventures of Hello Kitty and Friends

A second kid-friendly show to watch this winter is The Adventures of Hello Kitty and Friends. Almost everyone knows about Hello Kitty, but did you know she has her own show? The Adventures of Hello Kitty and Friends covers the adventures of Hello Kitty, Mimi, Keroppi, Pompom Purin, and many other characters! Even if your kids have never been introduced to the 90s nostalgia that most of us know as Hello Kitty herself, they are sure to love her show and friends. As a kid, I used to watch this show and my favorite character was always Keroppi. (Despite not being a big fan of Hello Kitty, I still looked forward to watching this show.)

If you have little girls, they will be more prone to want to see this show. Little boys might not be as interested; however, they might enjoy seeing the adventures of one of her friends. Give it a try and see what your kids think about The Adventures of Hello Kitty and Friends. Similar to Molang, there is nothing scary, inappropriate, or bad in this show. It is a kid-friendly show that you can play for your kids that you won’t have to worry about.

And if your little one turns into a big Hello Kitty fan, well then, you might have a new Christmas gift idea in mind!

3. Pusheen

A third kid-friendly show to watch this winter is Pusheen. While this show is only available on YouTube and is relatively short, it is still a great option. Pusheen is a gray cat who loves spending time with her family, soaking up next to a fire, and doing artwork with her paws. In fact, there is not a day that goes by that she is not setting her sights on a new goal or another fun adventure. Despite loving adventures and doing new things, she also loves to just spend time with her family and take it easy. Pusheen is a character that your kids will quickly love even if they are not a fan of cats.

Pusheen is not like traditional cats, which makes her lovable to both cat and dog fans alike. The design team for the show does a great job and presents a calming, relaxing, and colorful show for kids. You don’t have to worry about letting your kids watch this show because there is nothing political or morally gray in it. It is only full of fun, adventures, and friends. Pusheen also has many friends like Hello Kitty, and they will appear on the show often. In this way, there are always new characters for your kids to love and more stories to be heard.

4. Mister Rogers

While this is an older show, it is perfect for kids of all ages. My mother grew up watching this show as well as my sisters and I watched this show. Mister Rogers is a great teacher in this show as he is always teaching lessons to his viewers in a fun way. A memory from my mom that always makes me smile concerning this show is that Mister Rogers taught her how to tie her shoes and put on her coat. In many ways, Mister Rogers is a man who teaches children how to do many things, including how to treat others.

Mister Rogers also teaches children how to handle their emotions as well as how to express them. This is crucial for kids to learn because many schools do not focus on teaching kids how to handle their emotions. As a parent, you probably have spoken with your kids about emotions and how to talk them out; however, Mister Rogers can also help encourage kids to be open with their feelings. We also can appreciate Mister Rogers' catchphrase, “I like you just the way you are.” This can help kids know that they are loved just as they are.

(As a bonus, Mister Rogers was a proud professing Christian, promoting Christian principles in his show.)

5. Franklin

A fifth kid-friendly show to watch this winter is Franklin. Franklin is another show that I grew up watching and I always loved it as a kid. This show follows a turtle named Franklin who has a best friend named Bear. Similar to Mister Rogers, Franklin teaches viewers many lessons, including standing up for themselves, not being afraid of new situations, and how to make new friends. These are all great lessons that kids need to learn, and by watching Franklin, they can learn these lessons in a fun way.

If your kid loves animals, especially turtles, this is the best show you could put on for them. Maybe you also grew up with Franklin and this show will bring back memories from when you used to watch it as a kid. There is nothing greater than having a bonding moment with your kid than by watching Franklin together. Children love it when parents do things with them, even if that is just watching television.

Be involved with your kids and try to watch some of Franklin with them or another kid-friendly show because they will really appreciate it. Your children only stay kids for so long. Enjoy these times while they last and you will be able to remember the memories for years to come. Each of these television shows is kid-friendly and is perfect for a day indoors this winter. Your kids might even discover one of these shows will become their new favorite!
